Katsina, plateau in all zero draw

By Uchenna Iyoke
Katsina United and Plateau United showed class in the first game of Nigeria Professional Football League Matchday 6, but failed to register a single goal as the tie ended on a stalemate.

The host team returned from back to back losses suffered on the road and we’re in need of a win to salvage to improve their standing on the log by winning the maximum points.

But that would not be the case as Plateau United turned out strong to frustrate their hosts, dragging the much explosive encounter to a barren draw.

Mohammed Zukifilu made the first attempt at goal for Plateau United. with a quick strike saved by Goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammed. Later on the host team launched a flurry of attacks, earning a succession of corners from Faisal Sani and Atule Joseph.

Rasheed Ahmed had his header blocked by Andrew Ikefe, while the other attempt created a goal mouth scramble that was cleared into safety by Plateau defense.

Zukifilu’s 22nd minute strike almost put Plateau United in front but Yusuf Mohammed denied the striker.

Zukifilu had received a through pass from Jesse Akila before chipping the ball. However, Oche Ochowechi, Uche Onwuasoanya were also in several build-up to attacks and had one chance apiece wasted.

Plateau United created more glaring opportunities in the first stanza with Isah Ndala at one point unleashing a bullet of a shot that was firmly saved by Yusuf.

Just before the break, Abubakar Massaly almost broke the deadlock for Katsina United after dribbling past his marker in the vital area but fired wide from a promising position.

Second Half
Prior to the start of the second period, Coach Abdu Maikaba introduced Wasiu Jimoh, Abba Umar for Mohammed Zukifilu and Akila Jesse to strengthen his attack.

Both teams were eager and pacey as they returned, though Katsina United pushed farther through Faisal Sani whose delivery came handy for Rasheed Ahmed. His effort turned out wasteful at the end, blowing the ball wide.

As the match heated up, Coach Sadauki sent on Samuel Kalu, Gambo Mohammed, Sulieman Ibrahim for Rasheed Ahmed, Moustapha Mohammed and Abubakar Massaly.

Their presence increased the attack but had no goal to show as the game ended 0-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
