Nasarawa United new hitman, Nicodemus Reuben fluffed an opportunity to get the Solid Miners to go top of the log when his penalty was stopped by the goalkeeper Victor Philemon of home side, Adamawa United.
It was onee of the first midweek fixtures of the on-going Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2020/2021 season which settled for a scoreless draw at the Pantami Stadium.
Coach Zakka Bello of the Yola based club made just three change from the side that lost 2-0 at Katsina United, bringing on his new boy, Sale Muhammed to replace Nanushi Daniel while Muhammed Zaradeen and Jibrin Abubakar were selected ahead of Isah James and Abba Haruna respectively.
Similarly three alterations were made in the starting eleven of Coach Bala Nkiyu of Nasarawa United as he started Adamu Hassan ahead of Silas Nwanko, Ibrahim Mathew for Abubakar Abdullahi and Haggai Katoh for Victor Okoro respectively.
As early as the 3rd minute of the encounter, the visitors set their eyes on Adamawa goal when Aliyu Abdullahi headed on target off Ibrahim Mathew lofted cross from the right flank,
which Victor Philemon on goal for the host calmly stopped with calm confidence.
It was an end to end affairs for the two sides with Adamawa United aiming for their first win of the season while Nasarawa United sought to produce yet another impressive display on the road following their victory at Heartland on MatchDay 2.
The liveliest among the hosts, Adam Yakubu was the greatest threat for the Solid Miners as he recorded two goal bound efforts before his defender Jibrin Abubakar fouled Chinedu Ohanachom inside their box for the Referee Akinsaya Akintunde to point to the spot on the 23rd minute. But Reuben Nicodemus who scored a brace against Wikki Tourists on MatchDay 1 saw his left footed spot kick punched away by Philemon Victor for a corner with the resulting corner kick coming to nothing.
On half our mark however the host were unlucky not to break the deadluck when Adam Yakubu freed Muhammed Zaharadeen deep inside Nasarawa box, but he would bundle his effort into the side netting.
Numerous chances were made by Adamawa United to try to record their first victory proved abortive including a header to an unguarded net by substitute Emmanuel Ibekwe. Goalkeeper Danlami Umar had Uzochukwu Austin to thank for his clean sheet of the MatchDay 4 as the defender made himself big for an importan block toward the end of the cagey clash.
