Operation Crocodile Smile: Nigerians berate army for trying to silence #EndSARS protesters

Nigerians from various walks of life have condemned the decision of the Federal Government to deploy the army as part of their move to disperse the peaceful EndSARS protests across the country.

Recall that on Saturday, the Nigerian Army has announced its readiness to embark on its annual exercise, Crocodile Smile IV nationwide.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. SAGIR MUSA, he said that the exercise is scheduled to commence from the 20th of October to the 31st of December 2020.

The Exercise is deliberately intended to be all-encompassing to include cyber warfare exercises designees to identify, track, and counter negative propaganda in the social media and across the cyberspace.

However, Nigerians on social media have criticized the motive behind the deployment of the Army, as they claimed that it was meant to disrupt the peaceful protests against police brutality on innocent Nigerians.

Convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore in his remarks said Nigerians will not be cowed by the threats of the move by the Federal Government which he alleged was a move to scuttle the #EndSARS protests.

“#ENDSARS @HQNigerianArmy is subtly threatening the ongoing national uprising, we won’t succumb!

“Nigerian Army to Commence Crocodile Smile Exercise Nationwide is set to start its annual Exercise CROCODILE SMILE!” Citizens are not afraid of crocodiles! #RevolutionNow”.

@MAYOR72393259 said, “This Operation crocodile smile will be better in the Northeast where there’s insecurity. Do ur operation crocodile smile while we do our protest.”

@Tee_classicquem1 wrote, “If Nigerian Army launch Operation Crocodile smile, lets launch operation snake bite, lets the tussle begins ✊🏽”

@Emmanue5411815 wrote, “The President is only for the Fulanis: #PythonDance #CrocodileSmile. Fulani herdsmen massacre: anonymous security men ordered to restore order. And we await the next massacre. #Internalcolonialism #Restructurenow”

@Slimsy the handwriting is on the wall…the Federal government wants to use the army against his own people. This is really unfair and we won’t give up.

@hACKERS We are scared of the federal government plans to use the army to disrupt the endSARS peaceful protests. This is our fight and we are ready to stand for the just cause.

@Ibe I think the government has gotten it all wrong to deploy the army as a means to end the endSARS peaceful protest. We are not shaking.

@Jayboy #It is not a matter of deploying the army because we are here to stay until we achieve our goal.
