No Felabration this year – Yeni

By Charles Okogene

Except there is a dramatic turn of events, Which only God is capable of, in the affairs of man that COVID-19 has made a mess of, it is likely that the yearly Felabration that Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti and her other siblings have been organising in memory of their Father, the afrobeat creator, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, will not hold this year.

Fillers from Afrikan Shrine, the authentic home base of the equally authentic Nigeria music, has it that the organising committee of the festival, which had in time past, attracted the presence of Africa’s time-tested act like Lucy Dube, among others has been put on hold, no thanks to the pandemic that has ravaged and still ravaging the entire planet.
“Charlie men, virtually o,” Yeni said in an Sms sent to her seeking to know if the music festival will hold this year. In the same manner, the new Afrika Shrine Agidingbi that has hosted most of the events of Felabration since inception has remained under lock and key since March because of COVID-19 pandemic.
Similarly, other sources said that Fela’s birthday ceremony that has equally been celebrated posthumously on a high note even before he died in 1997, will equally witness a low profile celebration.
Normally, Felabration kicks off every October and lasts for a whole week with different activities and programmes.
