dignitaries called for strengthening of gender desks across the country.
“Women issues are crosscutting and multi-sectoral in nature at all levels. This is why, we are emphasizing the strengthening of Gender Desks in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), where they exist and the establishment of such, where they are non-existent accordingly. Therefore, as we kick off the Year of Action for Nigerian Women and Children, from this beautiful office, it is no more business as usual. I want to assure you all that we will double our efforts on girl-child education, female adult literacy, elimination of harmful traditional practices affecting women and girls, including female genital mutilation, economic empowerment of women and job creation, as well as advocate for legislations to ensure Gender Equality and End all forms of Discrimination against Girls and Women in Nigeria. In this regard, we will foster stronger partnerships with all MDAs and the private sector, as well as ensure that women are properly engaged with interventions and mitigation of the effects of climate change.”
Dame Tallen while thanking President Bihari for appointing women into key offices urged the president to appoint more women into his cabinet.

The commissioned building was conceptualized in 2006, with its initial conception as a National Children’s Library and Resource Centre. It was later converted to the Ministry’s Headquarters in 2013, in compliance with the guidelines of the Abuja Master Plan.
