Paraguay edges out Argentina, moves to quartre finals



Paraguay came from two goals down to defeat Argentina 3-2 in another upset match of the U17 world cup at the round of 16 stages.
Argentina had banged in their two goals through Zebllos in the 27’ and Goday in 42’ of the first half before an own goal by Cano in 52’ ignited the Paraguans to a scoring mode.
Two Garcete brothers, Diego Joel Torres Garcete in no 20 shirt, born 14th October 2002 scored in 73’ and Diego Ariel Duarte Garcete in shirt no 9, born 8th April 2002 scored the clincher in 86’. Tension became high as Argentina fought for an equalizer but in the process Palacious of Argentina saw red in 90+7’’.
Paraguay completed the quarterfinal pairings as the team will do battle with Holland on Sunday at 2030 hours for a semifinal ticket.
Argentina had a better credential at the U17 world cup being thrice Bronze medalists in 1995, 1997 and 2007; twice 4th place holders in 2001 and 2013 and thrice Quarterfinalists 1989, 1997 and 2007. They were four times continental champions in 1985, 2003, 2013 and 2019 as well as six times Silver medalists in 1988, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2009 and 2015.
Paraguay had a quarterfinal appearance in 1999 and a round of 16 game in 2017 as best performances.

Holland v Argentina at 2030 hrs on Sunday.
Korea v Mexico at 2400 hrs on Sunday.
Spain v. France at 2030 hrs on Monday.
Brazil v Italy at 2400 hrs on Monday.
Holland brought down Nigeria 3-1 to qualify for the quarterfinal.
